Shared by Foothills RPO–Nightly I-26 West Closures Start Sunday in Henderson County

Sections closed as part of I-26 Widening project

HENDERSONVILLE – Sections of Interstate 26 West in Henderson County will be closed nightly from Sunday through Thursday nights for construction activities.

Drivers will be detoured onto routes where traffic signals will be modified to handle increased traffic. Closures will start no earlier than 8 p.m. and all lanes will reopen by 6 a.m.

A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will perform a variety of tasks including shifting safety barrier, milling existing asphalt, placing new asphalt and painting bridges.

The nightly closures and detours are as follows:
•    Sunday and Monday nights: I-26 West will be closed from U.S. 25 Business (Exit 44) to Airport Road (Exit 40). Traffic will take Exit 44 and follow U.S. 25 Business (Hendersonville Road) to N.C. 280 (Airport Road) and return to I-26.
•    Tuesday and Wednesday nights: I-26 West will be closed from U.S 64 (Exit 49) to Airport Road (Exit 40). Traffic will take Exit 49B and follow U.S. 64 West to U.S. 25 North (Asheville Highway/Hendersonville Road) to N.C. 280 (Airport Road) and return to I-26.
•    Thursday night: I-26 West will be closed from U.S. 64 (Exit 49) to Long Shoals Road (Exit 37). Traffic will take Exit 49B and follow U.S. 64 West to U.S. 25 North (Asheville Highway/Hendersonville Road) to N.C. 141 (Long Shoals Road) and return to I-26.

These plans are weather dependent and subject to change. Transportation officials advise drivers to obey all posted traffic signs and remain alert in work zones.
